Dandruff is a very annoying situation where our scalp becomes very itchy. It results in flaky shedding that is basically accumulation of dead skin cells. There are many factors such as hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiency, stress, unhygienic scalp and changes in weather that contribute to dandruff. The listed few conditions need medical intervention but the latter two can be dealt with. The below-mentioned hair masks will help in nourishing as well as getting rid of dandruff.
Homemade Hair Masks to reduce dandruff #1: Fenugreek and Yoghurt Hair mask

Fenugreek is a blessing to treat an array of hair and scalp issue. It is one of the best ingredients to treat and reduce the problem of dandruff. Fenugreek has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help in treating scalp infection. Therefore helps in fighting dandruff in the best possible manner.
Yoghurt
The lactic acid present in yoghurt helps in nourishing the scalp and provides hair with the much-needed lustre and shine. It helps in detangling hair strands thereby reducing hair breakage.
What you need
2 tbsp of fenugreek seeds soaked overnight
2 tbsp sour yoghurt
How to use
Make a paste of the soaked fenugreek seeds. Add yoghurt to this paste. Apply this mixture on your scalp for 1 hour. Rinse thoroughly and wash it off with a mild shampoo.
Homemade Hair Masks to reduce dandruff #2: Egg White and Olive oil Hair mask

Egg whites help to cleanse the scalp of all the dead cell buildup and soak excess oil. It helps in strengthening the hair follicles, promotes hair growth and fights dandruff.
Olive oil helps in treating dry scalp by providing it with necessary nourishment and moisturisation.
What you need
2 whisked egg whites
2 tbsp olive oil
How to use
Mix the above two ingredients together and apply it on damp hair. You can cover your scalp with a shower cap to avoid the bothersome smell of egg whites. Keep this mask for 40 mins and wash it off with lukewarm water and a mild shampoo. Make sure that the final rinse is off cold/normal water to lock the open follicles.
Homemade Hair Masks to reduce dandruff #3: Hibiscus and Jojoba Oil Hair mask

Hibiscus flower is known to have astringent properties in ut. It helps in reducing and sucking excess sebum production from the scalp. This flower helps to soothe, cool and nourish the scalp thereby reducing dandruff.
What you need
3-4 hibiscus flower
2 tbsp jojoba oil
How to use
Simmer the hibiscus flower in one cup of water. Let that water evaporate so as to reduce its consistency. Now make a paste of this flower with the little amount(2 tbsp water) left in it. Add jojoba oil to it. Apply this paste on your scalp for 1 hour and then thoroughly rinse off with cold water.

4.Curry leaves and Jojoba oil hair mask

Curry leaves are known to have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. When applied on the scalp it helps in treating scalp infections and dandruff. Curry leaves mask is my favourite mask to treat my dandruff issues.
Jojoba oil
Organic Jojoba oil helps in maintaining the ph balance of our scalp and reduces dandruff. It is extremely lightweight therefore it does not weigh down the hair. Jojoba oil helps in dissolving excess sebum and nourishes the scalp to a great extent.
What you need
Curry leaves paste
2 tbsp organic Jojoba oil
How to use
Mix the above two ingredients to form a smooth paste. Apply it over damp hair and scalp. Cover your hair from roots till the end with this paste. Let it sit for a good 40 minutes. Rinse well with normal water to reveal smooth and shiny hair.
5.Banana Hair Mask

Bananas have antimicrobial properties that help in relieving itchy and dry scalp. thereby reducing the symptoms of dandruff. It contains a mineral element named silica that helps in synthesising collagen and gives lustrous and shiny hair.
What you need
2 ripe mashed bananas
How to use
Apply this banana mask on your hair covering the roots and ends. Keep this mask for 40 minutes. Rinse off with a mild shampoo and normal tap water.
6.Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a known remedy to treat dandruff. The acidity level in apple cider vinegar helps to balance the ph level of our scalp. It is known to help stimulate the shedding of dead skin cells on the scalp and reduce the growth of fungus. Apple cider vinegar also adds shine and helps to detangle our hair.
What you need
2 cups of apple cider vinegar
4 cups of cold water
How to use
Mix both the ingredients as described quantity. Post shampooing rinse your hair with this mixture. Let it sit for 2 minutes and then wash it off with normal water. You can use this remedy once every week.
7.Aloe Vera Hair Mask

Aloe vera is considered to have antifungal and antibacterial properties that help in fighting dandruff. It helps in reducing scalp inflammation, scaliness and itchiness up to a great extent.

Aloe vera get
How to use
Scoop out the aloe vera gel from its leaves. Blend this aloe vera gel in a mixer to form a slimy paste of it. Apply it on your hair and scalp. Let it sit till the time it dries completely. Wash it off thoroughly with cold water and a mild shampoo.
Always do a patch test to ensure that you’re not allergic to any of the above-mentioned ingredients. You can use the above masks at least once a week to see a difference in dandruff.
It is very important to know the fact that dandruff is a condition that can be treated and reduced but cannot be completely cured.
Also ensure that you’re induldging in a nutrition packed diet to reap overall benefits to your health.
